BPM #07 Recap: Inspiring Inclusion - Understanding Our Users at SPICED Academy and next event 11.04 at Spoke.ai
Let’s recap our last event and announce our exciting partnerships and upcoming product events.
This monthly newsletter from berlin product managers is brought to you by SPICED Academy, Lenny’s Newsletter, Jam, and CoHorts from BPM.
Hey BPM Community!
We had a blast celebrating at our last meetup, #07: “Inspiring Inclusion: Understanding our Users”, hosted at the cozy SPICED Academy in Kreuzberg. We had a packed house join us to welcome our speakers, two phenomenal women, Dr. Else van der Berg, Product Advisor and Ainoa Ryll, Growth Strategist. What better way to celebrate International Women’s Day and theme #InspireInclusion!
We also launched some new merchandise with our signature branding, as part of our giveaways handed out at the event. Who wants a T-shirt? 💙
If you missed the event, we have included photos of our event, thanks to Arundhati Shenoy, and also have attached links to our speakers’ slides.
The event was really helpful, especially when Dr. Else van der Berg explained how to understand our users better and figure out who our ideal customers are.
This is super important for making better products that people actually want to use.
Our first speaker, the wonderful Dr. Else van der Berg, Product Advisor provided us helpful tips on how to define and align on the company’s Ideal Customer Profile. We recognized this common misalignment among the team on the ICP can cause issues down the product roadmap and can lead to poor sales conversion rates. Learn from Else’s presentation slides how to find ICP alignment and how to rank your ICPs if you have more than one.
Our second speaker to follow was the incredible Ainoa Ryll, Growth Strategist who provided her insights on how to build more inclusive products. She defines gender as a social construct that has been heavily disregarded in product development, and thus creating bias and affecting user experience. In order to address inclusion in teams, she mentions to “Avoid empathy, build sympathy first.”
Find out more from her slides on how to normalize and address inclusion to create inclusive technology.
